Early childhood education refers to systematic and goal-directed activities intended to promote the growth, development and learning of young children.

Early childhood education services are a key aspect of the provided family services and support system. Parents have the primary responsibility for raising their child. The task of early childhood education is to support parents as they navigate parenthood and the raising of their child. Spontaneous play is a key aspect of early childhood education.

All children under school age have the right to early childhood education provided by the municipality once their parents’ parental leave has ended. The year before compulsory education begins, the child also has the right to preschool education free of charge.

Early childhood education is in place to promote the child’s well-being, care and learning. Early childhood education creates a foundation for the balanced growth and development of the child. The early childhood and preschool education organised in Kauniainen provides a seamless functional continuum that prepares the child for entry into basic education. Preschool education is an integral aspect of early childhood education.
